My grandmother's silk

We are overflowing with beautiful textiles from Lao and Australia. It’s always difficult knowing where to start when you’re surrounded by so much visual stimuli. Should I start here or there or with this or that? It has been a good 6 months since I began to formally collect my thoughts so I hope that you will enjoy the results. The green and gold silk piece you see below was made by my grandmother in Lao on our family loom. The detail in it is just amazing – an the weight of the piece itself makes you feel like you are wearing a jewel. She is excited to see this website up and it will include a showcase of our vintage family silks, some passed down from great-grandmothers. This particular piece is known as a Pha Bieng and it is worn during ceremonies across the chest like a sash and is worn by both men and women.
